How to Choose a Wine Label Lamp: Sizes and Tips

A wine label lamp is first and foremost a decorative piece: it needs to find its place, give off a pleasant light and carry a label that speaks to you. Here is our advice for choosing the right one, from the size to the bulb, not forgetting the appellation.

Three Sizes, Three Uses

29 cm: the small mood lamp

29 cm high and 12 cm in diameter. Ideal on a nightstand, a bookshelf, a desk or the counter of a wine cellar, wherever you want ambient light rather than reading light. See the 29 cm lamps.

39 cm: the versatile accent lamp

39 cm high and 17 cm in diameter. This is the most versatile size: on an entryway console table, a sideboard, a living room cabinet or a wine bar. It is also the size that offers the widest choice of labels. See the 39 cm lamps.

80 cm: the large oval lamp

80 cm high, 31 cm wide and 16 cm deep, with an oval shape. Placed on the floor or on a low piece of furniture, it becomes a centerpiece, for example in a tasting cellar or a large living room. You choose the estate label that dresses it. See the 80 cm lamp.

Where to Put It: The Right Height for Each Piece of Furniture

A simple rule: the lower the furniture and the larger the room, the taller the lamp can be.

Nightstand, shelf, desk (furniture 50 to 75 cm high): the 29 cm lamp, which won't hide a picture frame or your books.
Entryway console table, sideboard, chest of drawers, bar counter: the 39 cm lamp, visible from anywhere in the room.
Floor, low living room furniture, corner of a wine cellar: the large 80 cm oval lamp, which stands out as a decorative piece in its own right.

Ambient Light Rather Than Reading Light

The lampshade is entirely covered by the label: the light shines through it, softly diffused. These are therefore mood lamps, which give a room a warm glow in the evening, rather than reading lamps. For reading in bed or working, keep a directional lamp nearby and let the wine label lamp take care of the decor.

One, Two or Three Lamps?

As a pair: two lamps of the same size at either end of a sideboard or on each side of a bed, with the same label or two labels from the same côte (the Côte de Nuits or the Côte de Beaune).
As a grouping: a 29 cm and a 39 cm lamp side by side on a console table, for example a 29 cm Clos Vougeot lamp and the same label in 39 cm.
With a kakemono: the lamp on the furniture and the kakemono (hanging wall banner) of the same appellation on the wall above.

In a Wine Cellar, a Bar or a Tasting Room

Which Bulb Should You Use?

The lamps are sold without a bulb. We recommend a neutral white LED bulb, which respects the colors of the label and gives off little heat:

29 cm lamp: 40 W maximum;
39 cm and 80 cm lamps: 60 W maximum.

Choosing the Label

The easiest way is to start from the person or the memory: a wine you tasted, an estate you visited, a village you loved. Our labels cover the two great côtes of Burgundy wine country:
