Few people leave Beaune, the capital of Burgundy wines, empty-handed. Here is what you can bring back from a stay in wine country, from local delicacies to a souvenir you don't drink, along with a few tips for traveling with your bottles. Ideas from a Beaune shop located in the Faubourg Madeleine.
Local Delicacies
- Wine, of course: from an estate you visited, from a wine shop in town or along the Route des Grands Crus. Write down the appellation and the estate of the bottle that made an impression on you: it is the key to a good memory.
- Mustard: the Moutarderie Fallot, a family-run mustard maker based in Beaune, is open to visitors and offers mustards flavored with blackcurrant, gingerbread or marc de Bourgogne.
- Crème de cassis (blackcurrant liqueur), to make a kir at home (crème de cassis and Bourgogne Aligoté white wine).
- Pain d'épices (gingerbread), a Dijon specialty found throughout the region.
- Époisses, a washed-rind cheese born in the village of Époisses, in the Côte-d'Or, to be transported chilled and well wrapped.
- Burgundy snails, in jars or frozen, prepared with parsley butter.
- Crémant de Bourgogne, the region's sparkling wine, for celebrations.
- Anis de Flavigny, small aniseed candies made in Flavigny-sur-Ozerain, in their illustrated oval tin.
On Saturday mornings, Beaune's big market, around the covered market hall, brings together Bresse poultry, cheeses, charcuterie and seasonal produce: the ideal place to fill your basket.
Bringing Wine Home Without Any Unpleasant Surprises
- By car: lay the boxes flat, away from heat, and avoid leaving them for hours in a trunk in the full sun.
- By plane: liquids over 100 ml are not allowed in carry-on baggage; pack the bottles in your checked luggage, well protected, or have them shipped by the estate or the wine shop.
- When you get home: let the bottles rest for a few days before opening them, especially the reds.
A Souvenir You Don't Drink
A bottle always ends up being opened. To keep a lasting memory of wine country, we have created in Beaune decorative pieces that reproduce genuine labels of great Burgundy wines: wine label lamps, kakemonos (hanging wall banners) and a Clos Vougeot wall clock.
Choose the label of the village you explored:
- you visited the Hôtel-Dieu and the town's wine cellars: the Beaune lamp, the Beaune Clos des Mouches lamp or the Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus lamp;
- you stopped at the Château du Clos de Vougeot: the Clos Vougeot lamp;
- you strolled through Meursault, Volnay or Pommard: the Meursault-Gouttes d'Or lamp, the Volnay lamp or the Pommard lamp;
- you climbed the hill of Corton: the Corton-Charlemagne lamp.

Travel Light
A lamp doesn't always fit into a suitcase already full of bottles. Spot it in the shop, then order it online when you get home: we ship anywhere in France by Colissimo, to your home. If you are still in Beaune, in-store pickup is free, Tuesday to Saturday. All the details are on the Shipping and Returns page.
Things to See Before You Leave
- The Hospices de Beaune: the Hôtel-Dieu, founded in 1443 by Chancellor Nicolas Rolin and Guigone de Salins, with its famous glazed tile roofs.
- The Cité des Climats et vins de Bourgogne, to understand the appellations before choosing your bottles.
- The Route des Grands Crus, from Dijon to Santenay, through the villages whose names appear on our labels.
- The Hospices de Beaune Wine Auction, every third weekend of November: in 2026, the 166th auction takes place on Sunday, November 15.
